The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital and The Alan Turing Institute from the UK are exploring collaboration opportunities in building governance for the development and utilization of artificial intelligence ( AI ) .

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria and Prof. David Leslie as Director of Research on Ethics and Responsible Innovation from The Alan Turing Institute discussed opportunities for collaboration between the two parties in a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI 2025 which took place in Bangkok, Thailand.

As quoted in the ministry's press release in Jakarta, Thursday, Nezar said that Indonesia has completed the UNESCO AI Readiness Assessment and is preparing a National AI Roadmap.

"We recognize the importance of building an AI governance framework that is not only risk-based, but also based on rights, inclusion, and local values," Nezar said.

One of the challenges in building an AI governance framework, he said, is integrating ethical principles and public trust into a rapidly evolving AI technology system.
