This came in a series of posts by Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab on his X account.
Khattab said, "Following the treacherous terrorist attack that targeted St. Elias Church in the Douweila neighborhood of Damascus, our security units continued their intensive efforts."
He added, "By gathering information, analyzing evidence, and establishing a joint operations room with the General Intelligence Service to cross-reference and confirm information, we have begun to uncover the truth."
He explained that "based on initial information and in joint coordination with the General Intelligence Service, our security units carried out precise operations in Harasta and Kafr Batna (in the Damascus countryside), targeting sites of terrorist cells linked to ISIS."
He continued: "These operations resulted in clashes during which the cell leader and five other members were arrested, in addition to the killing of two others, one of whom was the main person involved in facilitating the suicide bomber's entry into the church, and the other who was also preparing to carry out a terrorist attack in a neighborhood of the capital."
He pointed out that "during the raid, quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized, in addition to explosive vests and mines. A motorcycle bomb was also found, which was prepared for detonation."
Khattab stressed that "these cowardly terrorist acts will only strengthen our resolve to pursue anyone who attempts to tamper with the nation's security. Our response will be firm and continuous against the dens of terrorism."
