The occupation forces bombed areas in southern Syria and Damascus. We have not verified the veracity of the reports of shelling towards Israel.

The Israeli occupation army said in a statement early Wednesday: “We attacked Syrian regime weapons in southern Syria in response to the launchings toward Israel.” It added: “The Syrian regime is responsible for what happens in Syria and will bear the consequences as long as hostile activities from its territory continue. We will take action against any threat directed at the State of Israel.”

Syrian media reported that the occupation army targeted Tal al-Shaar, Tal al-Mal, and the 175th Regiment in the Daraa countryside with three Israeli airstrikes.

On Tuesday, Israel launched artillery shelling on the Yarmouk Basin area west of Daraa, Syria, in the south of the country, according to what the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on its Twitter account.

For its part, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday evening that reports of shelling towards Israel had not been verified, following claims that two rockets had been fired towards the occupied Golan Heights.

This came, according to what was reported by the SANA news agency, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' media office, after Hebrew media outlets claimed that two rockets were fired from the city of Daraa in southern Syria toward the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, and that they fell in an open area.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry noted that "the accuracy of the reports circulating about shelling towards the Israeli side has not yet been verified," explaining that "there are numerous parties (which it did not specify) seeking to destabilize the region to achieve their own interests."

She added, "Syria has not and will not pose a threat to any party in the region." She considered that "the top priority in southern Syria lies in extending state authority and ending the presence of weapons outside official institutions, thus ensuring security and stability for all citizens."

It "strongly" condemned the Israeli bombing that targeted villages and towns in Daraa Governorate, causing "significant human and material losses," without providing details.

It noted that "this escalation represents a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and increases tensions in the region at a time when we most need calm and peaceful solutions." The Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to "assume its responsibilities in halting these attacks and supporting efforts aimed at restoring security and stability to Syria and the region."

In a related development, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz threatened Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa with a "firm response" on Tuesday, after Tel Aviv announced the launch of two rockets toward the occupied Golan Heights. The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Katz as saying that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa "is directly responsible for every threat and fire toward Israel."

Earlier on Tuesday, the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that two rockets were fired from the city of Daraa in southern Syria. The identity of the launcher remains unknown, and they fell in an open area. Channel 13, meanwhile, confirmed that the air raid sirens were activated in the Syrian Golan Heights as a result of the two rockets being fired from Daraa, noting that no significant casualties resulted from the rockets falling in an open area.

Since the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime in late 2024, Israel has launched airstrikes on Syria, killing civilians and destroying Syrian military sites, vehicles, and ammunition.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. Taking advantage of the new situation following the overthrow of Assad, it occupied the Syrian buffer zone and declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.

For decades, Israel has occupied territories in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon, and refuses to withdraw from them and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.
