Maintaining hearing health starts with choosing a hearing aid or personal listening device that is safe for daily use, said Ear, Nose, Throat-Head and Neck (ENT-KL) specialist Dr. dr. Fikri Mirza Putranto.
In a health discussion that was followed online Fikri, an ENT-KL doctor at the University of Indonesia Hospital, said that hearing aids used daily are recommended to have noise canceling to reduce outside noise and not to increase the volume when listening using earphones .
"So it can dampen the sound of the environment so that it cannot be heard coming inside. This is the safest to use in crowded places," said Fikri.
He said, several models of listening devices on the market such as earbuds, over ear or headphones that cover the entire ear or bone conduction have the ability to produce a maximum sound of 95 to 110 decibels.
The use of these tools is actually only recommended for 15 minutes, but people usually use them for more than an hour to accompany their journey and even wear them until they fall asleep.
