The League's General Secretariat confirmed in a brief statement on Monday that the meeting aims to discuss the "grave humanitarian situation" in the Gaza Strip, without revealing further details.
Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League, announced on Monday that his country had requested an extraordinary session of the League Council at the delegate level to discuss the ongoing Israeli escalation in Gaza and the violations being perpetrated against civilians under the tight blockade.
Al-Aklouk pointed out that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of genocide, and that what is being provided in the name of "humanitarian relief" is nothing more than a new tool for killing, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
In a related development, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that Israel's starvation policy has led to the deaths of 86 people, including 76 children, due to malnutrition. The government media office also warned that the Strip is on the brink of "mass death" after the crossings have been closed for more than 140 days.
Since March 2, 2025, Israel has continued to close all crossings into the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of food and medicine, exacerbating the spread of famine among the population.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a comprehensive war on Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls and decisions of the International Court of Justice.
These operations, with US support, resulted in more than 200,000 deaths and injuries, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 9,000 missing persons, hundreds of thousands displaced, and widespread famine that claimed many lives.
