Instagram Threads, a new app from Meta, is starting to catch up with X in terms of mobile app users, according to new data from market intelligence provider Similarweb.
As of June 2025, the Threads mobile app for iOS and Android had 115.1 million daily active users, showing a year-on-year (yoy) growth of 127.8 percent, while X reached 132 million daily active users, after its growth declined by 15.2 percent (yoy).
Meta's social network has 15.3 million daily active US users across iOS and Android, while X has 22.9 million daily active users.
However, the new data suggests that Threads could become a more significant competitor to X on iOS and Android, although X still has a big lead on the web.
Similarweb found that X's daily visits to its website pages worldwide were significantly higher than Threads', with X recording an average of 145.8 million visits to its website pages per day worldwide in June 2025, while Threads recorded 6.9 million visits.
Threads has 350 million monthly active users, according to Meta’s latest earnings report. X is no longer required to share metrics publicly as a private company. Owner Elon Musk claimed last year that X had 600 million monthly active users.
