Egypt and Qatar discuss efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and Netanyahu will meet with Trump next week.

This came during a phone call to discuss the latest developments in Gaza. The two sides reviewed arrangements for Egypt to host a recovery and reconstruction conference in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, following the ceasefire agreement.

In a related context, Abdel-Ati discussed with his Qatari counterpart arrangements for Egypt to host the Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference in Gaza once a ceasefire agreement is reached, in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.

Egypt is seeking to implement the Gaza reconstruction plan approved by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in March. The plan aims to rebuild Gaza without displacing Palestinians, at an estimated cost of $53 billion over five years.

The two ministers also discussed developments related to the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, stressing the need to consolidate de-escalation and push for diplomatic solutions. Abdel Aty stressed Egypt's support for the resumption of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program and all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the Middle East.

In this context, on June 13, Israel, with US support, launched a 12-day military campaign against Iran, targeting military and nuclear sites and civilian facilities, in addition to assassinating nuclear leaders and scientists. Iran responded by attacking Israeli sites with ballistic missiles and drones.

On the Israeli front, sources indicated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to travel to Washington on Saturday to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday. This will be his fourth visit to the United States since the start of the war in October 2023, and his third since Trump assumed his second term in January 2025.

The visit comes amid intense security deliberations focused on the possibility of reaching a prisoner exchange agreement and a ceasefire with Hamas, or expanding military operations in Gaza.

In recent days, Trump has expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement to end the war in Gaza and open the door to expanding the normalization process between Israel and Arab countries.

For its part, Hamas has affirmed its willingness to release all Israeli prisoners at once in exchange for an end to the war, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners. Netanyahu, however, insists on partial conditions, including the disarmament of Palestinian factions, and refuses to withdraw the army, in an effort to preserve his political interests and remain in power, according to the Israeli opposition.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The genocide, backed by the United States, left approximately 190,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and a famine claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
