Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto apologized for visiting the European Commission on Sunday, saying it was not an ordinary event .
Prabowo conveyed this in a joint statement with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels, Belgium, Sunday local time.
"First of all, it's a great honor for me to be here, to be received by the European Commission. And I'd like to once again apologize for visiting you on Sunday. I know this is very unusual," Prabowo said, as quoted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Sunday.
Prabowo acknowledged that a visit on a holiday was unusual, but he appreciated the European Commission's hospitality.
The President said the honor he received reflected the importance of the relationship between Indonesia and the European Union.
