Pre-season match: Liverpool win 3-1 over Yokohama Marinos




Liverpool managed to beat Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos 3-1 in a pre-season match held at Nissan Stadium, Yokohama, Wednesday.

Liverpool fielded a new signing in this match. Hugo Ekitike, recently signed from Eintracht Frankfurt, was named in the starting lineup.

The French striker is a member of Liverpool's new trident alongside Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Ekitike played for 45 minutes, failing to score or assist. He was replaced by Darwin Nunez in the second half.

The hosts took the lead through Asahi Uenaka, but the Reds responded with goals from Florian Wirtz, Trey Nyoni, and Rio Ngumoha.

In the first half, Yokohama also managed to keep Liverpool at bay, with the score remaining 0-0 at halftime.

The second goal came in the second half. The hosts, who also fielded Indonesian national team defender Sandy Walsh, opened the scoring through Asahi Uenaka in the 55th minute.

Liverpool quickly responded in the 62nd minute. Curtis Jones, playing aggressively, won the ball before sending a through ball to Salah.

The Egyptian striker then provided the assist for Wirtz, who scored with a beautiful shot into the corner of the net, leveling the score at 1-1.

In the 68th minute, Liverpool turned the score around. Trey Nyoni, who had just come on, brought the Reds back into the lead to 2-1 with his shot in front of the goal.

Liverpool continued to apply pressure, and Rio Ngumoha secured a 3-1 victory with his goal in the 87th minute. The score remained that way until the final whistle.

This victory also concluded Liverpool's tour of Asia, after previously playing in Hong Kong.

Liverpool will then return to England and play their final preseason match against Athletic Bilbao on August 4. Yokohama F Marinos
