Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla has signed a one-year contract extension with Real Oviedo to remain with the club, which has just been promoted to the top tier of Spanish football, on Sunday.
Cazorla's 40-year-old contract expires this summer, according to Oviedo's official website.
He scored in Oviedo's play-off final victory over Mirandes, having also netted in the semifinal victory over Almeria.The former Arsenal player will enter his third season with Oviedo, marking his return to La Liga after leaving Villarreal five years ago.
He spent seven years in Oviedo's youth academy, but the club's financial crisis prevented them from offering Cazorla a professional contract. He left in 2003 before making his first-team debut.Cazorla was one of several former Oviedo players who bought shares in the club in 2012 when it was facing bankruptcy. He returned to Oviedo in 2023 after three seasons with Qatari club Al Sadd.
