 Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria emphasized the government's commitment to protecting the rights of publishers and journalists amidst the rapid flow of digital transformation and the dominance of artificial intelligence (AI).

"We want to ensure that technology, including AI, does not undermine fundamental journalistic values, but instead strengthens independent and responsible journalism," Nezar said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Nezar emphasized that Indonesia is encouraging the creation of a digital ecosystem that is fair, inclusive, and supports quality journalism.

He highlighted a drastic shift in news consumption patterns in Indonesia. As many as 57 percent of Indonesians now rely on social media as their primary source of news, and 40 percent use it as their primary source of daily information.

Among young people (18–24 years), the figure has jumped to more than 50 percent.
