The Ministry of Communication and Digital has begun the auction process for selecting users of the 1.4 GHz radio frequency band for broadband wireless access services in an effort to expand the reach of internet access services at more affordable costs.
"This step not only opens up space for network providers to increase capacity and service coverage, but also expands more affordable internet access options for the public," said Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of Digital Infrastructure at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, in a press statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The selection of 1.4 GHz radio frequency band users is carried out based on the Decree of the Minister of Communication and Digital Number 337 of 2025 concerning the Selection of 1.4 GHz Radio Frequency Band Users for Broadband Wireless Access Services in 2025.
The provision stipulates a frequency band of 80 MHz (1432–1512 MHz) in three regions as the object of selection.
The selection of 1.4 GHz radio frequency band users is open to all telecommunications providers who have obtained permits according to the requirements.
The selection stages will be carried out objectively and transparently through an administrative evaluation mechanism and evaluation of network and service development commitments.
The commitment to providing these services will be a reference for monitoring and evaluation after the selection winner is determined.
The government is striving to ensure that all stages of the selection process are carried out in accordance with the principles of good governance.
"Our focus is to ensure that this frequency band is optimally utilized to improve the reach and quality of fixed broadband-based internet services, including in areas that are not yet optimally served," Wayan said.
