The Need for Speed game franchise is reportedly entering a temporary hiatus

 Electronics Arts (EA)'s legendary racing game franchise, Need for Speed, is reportedly going on hiatus for the time being.

As reported by Engadget on Monday, this news emerged after photographer Matthew Everingham, who frequently contributes to the automotive website Speedhunters, posted a statement on social media that EA had “shelved Need for Speed” and quietly “parked” the series.

The Speedhunters website, which is funded by EA and was last updated in April 2024, is also said to be ceasing operations for now.

While EA has yet to make an official statement regarding the fate of the Need for Speed franchise, a number of internal decisions point to an uncertain future for the series.
