Tijuana, April 26.- To continue efforts to reduce homicides and combat crime, 200 members of the Mexican Army's Special Forces arrived by road from Mexico City, joining the 4,000 troops guarding Tijuana.
General Francisco Javier Hernández Almanza, commissioner of the National Guard, stated that he is targeting the 125 criminal leaders responsible for violence and homicides in the city, and is therefore working in coordination with the State Attorney General's Office, the State Government, and the City Council.
"We will be working with the State Attorney General's Office and are following up on the arrest warrants for these individuals. Operations are underway to arrest them, as they operate within the state and from other states," he explained.
The Mexican Army reiterates the importance of the public reporting illegal activities and information that could lead to the capture of the 125 most wanted criminals responsible for the violence affecting the 3.7 million people of Baja California.
Complaints are received anonymously, 24 hours a day by phone at (664) 685 0297, by email at denuncia.2zm@sedena.gob.mx, or in person at the Headquarters of the 2nd Military Zone.
They noted that homicides have decreased and they hope the statistics will continue to decline.
"They have been decreasing, but we hope they continue to decrease. We expect a 7 or 8 percent decrease (in homicides) during the time they (the military group) are here."
The 200 soldiers are part of the Joint Task Force Mexico. The mission, he said, is to maintain the rule of law and the development of the entity's daily activities. They assure that they will act at all times with full respect for human rights.
