2,240 hectares affected by fire in San Pedro Mártir


 Tijuana, August 22.- The wildfire in the San Pedro Mártir Protected Natural Area affected 2,240 preliminary hectares in four different locations, of which only one remains fully active, reported the Baja California State Fire Management Center.

The fire, reported on August 21 in federal territory with high protection priority, has progressed at varying levels in each branch. The most critical area is Santa Rosa, with 1,379 hectares affected and only 30 percent control and 20 percent suppression.

The Tasajera 2 branch records 444 hectares damaged with 75 percent control and 65 percent liquidation, while the smaller outbreaks are already practically under control: La Encantada (401 hectares, 100 percent controlled and liquidated) and Tasajera 1 (16 hectares, 100 percent controlled and 90 percent liquidated).

Fifty-four members of various organizations are participating in the battle, including four forestry brigades from San Pedro Mártir, 23 CONAFOR combatants, seven members of the Navy, five members of the Observatory, park rangers, and Civil Protection personnel.
