4 of 11 candidates for vacant magistrate position investigated for electoral crimes

Tijuana, February 27. Four of the 11 candidates vying for the vacant magistrate position on the Baja California Electoral Tribunal are charged with electoral crimes; two of them also have an administrative infraction decreed by the National Electoral Institute (INE).

The current president of the State Electoral Institute, Luis Alberto Hernández Morales, who is seeking to become a national councilor at the INE, is also under investigation in the same case as his four colleagues.

The defendants are Olga Viridiana Maciel Sánchez, Raúl Guzmán Gómez, Daniel García García, and Graciela Amezola Canseco; they are among the 11 candidates, according to the list published on February 22.

Olga Viridiana is currently an electoral councilor, and Raúl Guzmán is the executive secretary of the State Electoral Institute. Daniel García García and Graciela Amezola Canseco served on the council during the 2021 electoral process.

Charges for registration of municipal payrolls

The four appear in the investigation file of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Electoral Crimes with Unique Number 0204-2021-21654, which according to the background of the case, was initiated after the Electoral Court of Baja California resolved the appeal with the number RI-95/2021 and ordered that it be reviewed by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Electoral Crimes.
