44 countries participate in the largest civilian naval flotilla heading to Gaza to break the Israeli blockade.

The announcement came during a press conference held in the Tunisian capital on Monday, organized by the Joint Coordination Platform for Palestine, a coalition of civil society organizations supporting the Palestinian cause.

According to organizers, the anticipated flotilla will comprise dozens of boats from 44 countries around the world and is the largest of its kind in history, with the participation of thousands of activists as part of the "Global Resilience Flotilla" initiative, which unites four international movements: the Maghreb Resilience Flotilla, the Global Movement for Gaza, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and the Resilience of Nusantara.

Haifa Mansouri, one of the flotilla's coordinators, said the goal of the movement is to "break the illegal blockade on Gaza, open a safe humanitarian corridor for the delivery of aid, and confront the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people." The first convoy is scheduled to depart from Spanish ports on August 31, followed by a second convoy from Tunisian ports on September 4.

For his part, another organizer, Saif Abu Kashka, confirmed that more than 6,000 activists have registered to participate, noting that participants will undergo training at the launching points, in addition to organizing solidarity events and awareness camps along the maritime route. He added, "This is a renewed attempt to pressure governments by sending dozens of ships and thousands of activists to break the blockade imposed on Gaza."

This move comes just days after the Israeli Navy intercepted the aid ship "Handala" on July 26 as it approached the Gaza coast. The ship had traveled 70 nautical miles, exceeding the distance traveled by the ship "Madeleine", which was previously intercepted at 110 miles.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The genocide, backed by the United States, left more than 211,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and a famine claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
