Hermosillo, Sonora, February 19. A 4-year-old boy and two women are the official death toll from an armed attack by gunmen against a migrant caravan traveling 50 kilometers from the border dividing Mexico and the United States, the Attorney General's Office in Sonora reported.
The report came after the civil association 1800migrante reported that it was a massacre with more than 50 victims aboard two vans, which were set on fire with migrants inside.
The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, February 15, in an uninhabited truck in the municipality of Sáric, a few kilometers from the border between Sonora, Mexico, and Arizona, United States. However, it was not until Monday morning that Sonora prosecutor Gustavo Salas Chávez clarified that there were three fatalities: a 4-year-old boy from Ecuador and two adult women.
"I want to be very emphatic in pointing out that the organization's claims are completely false. That number of people never existed, nor did they even appear to have been passing through at that time. Unfortunately, we have confirmed the deaths of three people: a minor and two women," the Prosecutor commented.
