Tijuana, December 9. Former U.S. ambassador to Mexico Christopher Landau was nominated by the neighboring country's president-elect, Donald Trump, as deputy secretary of state; the appointment must be ratified by the Senate.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Trump indicated that the former diplomat—whom he refers to as "Chris"—will work closely with his nominee for Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, a senator from Florida, "to promote the security and prosperity of our nation through a foreign policy that puts America first.
Trump, who will take office as president on January 20, 2025—his second term—highlighted that when Landau served as his country's ambassador to Mexico, he "worked tirelessly to reduce illegal migration to the lowest levels in history."
For his part, Christopher Landau said he was honored and thanked the nomination on his X account and stated that he is ready to implement Trump's foreign policy agenda, and that he "eagerly" awaits confirmation of his appointment by the US Senate.
