PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat has officially acquired the legendary basketball club Satria Muda Pertamina and moved its operational base.
The move, announced in early August 2025, marks Persib's major expansion beyond football and opens a new chapter for Satria Muda, a club that has been synonymous with the capital and national success for more than three decades.
Under the auspices of Persib, the club now carries the name Satria Muda Bandung, with a vision expressed by management as "Indonesian Champions, Indonesia Champions." According to the club's management, they don't believe Satria Muda is just a club for Jakarta, but for Indonesia.
This acquisition process is more than just a change of address. Persib's presence brings about changes in management structure, sponsorship support, and marketing strategies that are more integrated with the modern sports industry.
Satria Muda's move to Bandung also adds to the sports corporation model where one entity can oversee various sports, such as Dewa United and Bali United, which both have football and basketball clubs.
However, behind this great opportunity, there is a wave of change that is eroding one great legacy in the world of Indonesian basketball: Prawira Bandung.
Prawira is a team with a long history dating back to the Kobatama basketball league era in the 1990s. Formerly known as Panasia and Garuda Bandung, the club has won a total of four championships, three during the Kobatama era and one IBL title.
Prawira Bandung, which in 2023 lifted the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) trophy after a long wait, has now effectively disappeared. The club is not just a league participant, but also part of Indonesia's long basketball history. Before being named Prawira, the club had a golden era during the Kobatama era, winning three championships in 1994, 1997, and 1998.
