Alwi Farhan officially replaces Axelsen at the 2025 World Championships

Indonesian men's singles player Alwi Farhan is confirmed to make his debut at the 2025 Badminton World Championships in Paris, France, from August 25–31, after accepting an invitation to replace Viktor Axelsen from Denmark who withdrew.

The 20-year-old was confirmed to appear on Friday, making him one of three Indonesian representatives in the men's singles event alongside Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie.

"Thank God, I'm grateful and very happy. I never expected to be able to compete in the World Championships. I'm excited because it's my first time, but I still have to keep my emotions in check. I'll maximize this opportunity and gain as much experience as possible," Alwi said in an official PBSI statement.

Alwi Farhan was previously ranked eighth on the reserve list for the 2025 World Championships. However, five players above him have already qualified, while two others, Lei Lan Xi (China) and Chi Yu Jen (Taiwan), can only replace their compatriots because the maximum quota of four representatives per country has been filled.

Alwi's opportunity to compete opened up after Axelsen, a two-time world champion in 2017 and 2022, announced his withdrawal due to the ongoing recovery period following back surgery in April.

Alwi admitted that he would use the preparation time of around one and a half weeks to perfect his strategy and physical condition.
