Apple has sold three billion iPhone units since 2007

Apple has recorded sales of three billion iPhone units since the product was first launched in 2007, as announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook in the company's third-quarter (Q3) earnings report.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Friday, it took Apple nine years to reach the first billion units sold, which was achieved in 2016. This means that another 2 billion units were sold in just the last nine years, which marks the continued increase in the popularity of the iPhone worldwide.

Despite celebrating this significant milestone, Apple has faced pressure in the stock market this year. The Cupertino, California-based technology company now ranks behind Nvidia and Microsoft on the list of companies with the highest market valuations.

However, good news came from Apple's quarterly financial report which showed stronger-than-expected iPhone sales.

The iPhone, Apple's flagship product, saw a 13 percent year- over-year increase in sales , generating revenue of US$44.6 billion in the quarter. This figure represents nearly half of Apple's total revenue for the same period, US$94 billion.

However, analysts warn that this surge could be temporary. Bloomberg editor and Apple product expert Mark Gurman speculates that the sales increase could be driven by consumer concerns about US President Donald Trump's proposed import tariffs, which are feared to drastically increase iPhone prices in the United States.
