Armenta responds to reports about the legality of the Senate's last regular session.

Tijuana, May 1. Senate President Alejandro Armenta responded to speculation surrounding the legality of the legislative body's last regular session, which took place at the Old Xicoténcatl House last weekend, according to a press release.

He referred to a document published by the legislator on social media and clarified that the closing of the Ordinary Session of the Senate of the Republic was carried out based on its regulations and the Organic Law of Congress.
He noted that "in its April 30, 2023, edition, the newspaper  Reforma  published an article entitled 'Senators falsify quorum for vote,' which indicates that two votes in the aforementioned Ordinary Session do not correspond to the votes cast."

The votes are the opinion to dissolve the National Financing Institution for Rural, Agricultural, Forestry, and Fisheries Development, and the one issuing the General Law on Humanities, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

"Regarding the Rural Finance project,  Reforma  states that the final result announced by the Secretariat of the Board of Directors is incorrect, which was 57 votes in favor, five abstentions, and four against, for a quorum of 66 senators. It asserts that the correct result was 58 votes in favor, three against, and three abstentions, which means the constitutional quorum was not reached," he explained.
