Mexico City, March 27 – Through coordination with the Government of Mexico and ongoing collaboration with entrepreneurs from various sectors of the tourism sector, the state of Baja California is consolidating its position as a tourism powerhouse in Mexico, stated Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda during her participation in the 2023 Tourism Fair, held in Mexico City.
The national leader explained that 8.9 percent of the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is allocated to tourism, and that the state contributes 3.4 percent of the national tourism GDP, placing the state above the national average and encouraging it to continue attracting visitors from both Mexico and abroad.
Economic spillover
In this regard, the Head of the State Executive Branch stated that the economic impact is primarily directed toward the hotel and restaurant industry; however, significant gains are also recorded in other businesses and services related to serving all visitors, such as transportation and guidance.
During her participation in the Tianguis Turístico (Tourism Fair) on Monday, March 27, Governor Marina del Pilar announced a strategic alliance with Volaris Airlines to strengthen connectivity in Baja California, inaugurating a flight between Mexicali, the state capital, and the city of San José del Cabo in Baja California Sur.
