BC government withdraws support for victims of El Rubí, they denounce

Tijuana, February 1.- Families affected by landslides in Cumbres del Rubí reported that the government of Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has withdrawn the monthly rent support they had received in the amount of 5,000 pesos since the previous administration.

In front of the Bienestar offices in Plaza Patria, one of those affected, Maribel Belmontes, said that with the new state administration, they are required to provide a lease; a requirement that is difficult to obtain because in many cases the tenant refuses to sign the contract.

"For the governor to now come and say that if they don't bring a lease, or we don't bring a lease, the check won't be delivered or won't be given to them, seems to me a huge injustice."

Maribel noted that the requirements they ask for are: a lease agreement, my voter ID, CURP (Customer Registration Number), birth certificate, and water and electricity bills.

Tello Chávez, another of those affected, pointed out that the aid they have received did not require this requirement, since their rental costs exceed the amount they are receiving. He believed the requirements requested by the state government are intended to provide aid to families who have fallen on hard times.

"It doesn't seem fair to us; it seems to us that it was done with malice and advantage to not give us support."
