Jair Bolsonaro was inspired by Donald Trump. His speeches and his way of doing politics. He was a denier, questioning traditional politics, centralizing, aggressive toward the media, those he disagrees with, and the judiciary.
They started out well together, then went from sniper to president of Brazil, like Trump. Things started to go wrong when, once elected, they stopped being free-shooters and had to answer for their governments. The pandemic further increased the strain on both of them.
But things got worse for Bolsonaro when Trump failed to win reelection, focusing all the major problems facing the United States on him, increasing his disapproval of him, and turning the US elections into a referendum on him. He lost, causing problems for Bolsonaro, who thought the path would be easier. He lost a course of action and a great ally.
This year, things turned out worse for Bolsonaro. The strain he hadn't yet experienced last year due to the pandemic began this year, with the clear knowledge that the government didn't purchase the vaccines it could have purchased last year, leading to the preventable deaths of thousands of people.
