Cecut celebrates the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples with a "Gathering of Knowledge"

Tijuana, August 9.- The Tijuana Cultural Center hosted the "Encuentro de Saberes" event, a celebration that commemorated the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples through cultural presentations, food samples, and handicraft exhibitions that promoted the cultural diversity of Mexico's indigenous peoples.

Belinda Rodríguez, head of the Secretariat of Social Inclusion and Gender Equality, emphasized the importance of this commemoration in recognizing and giving visibility to indigenous peoples who have been marginalized for decades but who constitute a fundamental part of the nation's roots.

The official explained that Baja California is home to various indigenous communities, including the Cucapah, Kiliwa, Kumiai, Paipai, and Cochimi, groups that primarily face a lack of health services and issues related to land ownership.

Lucia Lagunas Rodríguez, representative of the Cucapah Mayor Indigenous community of Mexicali, participated in the event and shared details about her community, made up of approximately 70 families dedicated primarily to crafts and fishing. For this community, events like the one held at the CECUT represent a valuable opportunity to share their traditions and generate income through the sale of their handcrafted products.
