ChatGPT, a mobile application developed by artificial intelligence company OpenAI, is reported to have generated US$2 billion (Rp32.3 trillion) in revenue over the past two years since its launch in May 2023.
This information comes from the intelligent analytics platform Appfigures, as reported by TechCrunch on Friday (August 15th). The mobile app's revenue is estimated to be around 30 times the total spending of ChatGPT's competitors, including Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
Furthermore, the analysis data shows that throughout the first half of 2025, the ChatGPT mobile app generated US$1.35 billion in revenue, a 673 percent increase from the US$174 million it generated in the same period (January-July) in 2024.
On average, the app generates nearly US$193 million per month. This figure is significantly higher, or approximately 53 times higher than ChatGPT's closest competitor, Grok, which generated approximately US$25.6 million between January and July 2025.
ChatGPT's superiority is also evident in the number of downloads. To date, the app has been installed an estimated 690 million times globally, compared to Grok's 39.5 million.
ChatGPT's global average monthly downloads now stand at around 45 million for the January-July 2025 period, up 180 percent from around 16 million downloads for the same period in 2024.
By 2025, the ChatGPT app had been downloaded 318 million times, or 2.8 times more than the 113 million downloads in the same period last year.
