Civil Protection reports more than 200 aftershocks in Mexicali

Mexicali, February 12. The technical secretary of the Mexicali Municipal Civil Protection Unit, René Rosado, announced this Monday afternoon that, following the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 12:37 a.m., more than 200 lesser aftershocks have been recorded.

He said the epicenter of the tremors was located northwest of the city of El Centro, California , and initially they did not know what fault was causing them.

Rosado commented that they contacted the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada (CICESE) and it was the researcher Luis Mendoza Garcilazo who informed them that it was the " Dixie Land " fault.

This fault, he said, passes through the geothermal field located in the city of Heber, located eight kilometers north of the urban area of Mexicali .

The head of the municipal Civil Protection unit stated that in the face of these events, it is important for citizens to implement their family civil protection plan and, to the extent possible, have an emergency backpack.

In conclusion, he noted that no human being or instrument in the world can predict an earthquake , so people must always be prepared for the possibility, especially in Mexicali, since the municipality is located on 13 active geological faults.
