The Court approves that SiNotimex has a voice and vote in the agency

Mexico City, May 26.- The Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) granted the Independent Union of Notimex Workers (SiNotimex) the right to one of its representatives to participate with voice and vote in the meetings of the Governing Board of this agency, as established by its organic law.

The ruling was approved by a three-vote majority and establishes that: "There will be one representative of the agency's unionized workers for each established union. This way, minority unions can be given a voice and vote, thus allowing adequate representation of the interests of all Notimex unionized workers."

The ruling was drafted by Minister Luis María Aguilar Morales, and it guarantees that SiNotimex may intervene and vote in matters related to the performance of unionized workers, "with the exception of the negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement, since, as previously stated, only the union holding the aforementioned agreement may conduct negotiations."

He added that this resolution is based on the right to freedom of association established in Article 123 of the Constitution. In this regard, the leader of SiNotimex, Jesús Rodríguez Espinosa, issued a statement calling the SCJN's decision historic, as it "reaffirms that we are right in the face of the judicial decisions of recent years regarding the strike imposed by the minority, which has kept Notimex closed."
