Boxers Angelino Cordova and Yankiel Rivera will enter the ring to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim flyweight (50.8 kg) world championship title in Orlando, United States.
"Both undefeated fighters (Cordova and Rivera) will come hungry, and only one will emerge victorious and claim the interim world title," the WBA said on its official website, as monitored in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Cordova, with an undefeated record of 19 wins with 12 knockouts (KO) and one draw, will come in as one of the toughest boxers in Latin America.
The Venezuelan boxer has built an undefeated record with wins in Venezuela, Mexico and the United States.
At 29, Cordova is known for his powerful right hand, striking style, and ability to finish fights. His consistent progress has now put him on the verge of world title glory.
His last fight came in December 2024, when he earned a unanimous decision victory over Puerto Rico's Josue Morales in San Juan, a performance that cemented his dominance after the third round.
Now, with momentum and confidence on his side, Cordova is the second-ranked WBA top contender chasing his first world title.
Meanwhile, Rivera, with a record of seven wins (three KOs), represents a new wave of Caribbean talent.
The 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalist in Lima and 2020 Tokyo Olympian has made a smooth transition to the professional world, picking up a number of quality wins over the likes of Andy Dominguez and Victor Sandoval.
His combination of speed, movement and solid defense makes the 26-year-old one of the most promising prospects in the flyweight division.
In his last fight, Rivera stopped American boxer Angel Gonzalez in November 2024 in San Juan, showcasing his improved offensive arsenal and killer instinct. He entered the fight as the WBA's number one contender.
