Dermatologist Dr. Hafiza Fikri Fadel, Sp.KK, FINSDV, PGC, explains why skin exfoliation should not be done excessively to maintain healthy skin.
Fiza, a graduate of the Dermatology and Venereology Specialist Program at the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Medicine, explained at a Wardah discussion in Jakarta on Friday that excessive exfoliation can easily lead to dryness and redness. Furthermore, one sign of over-exfoliation is a tight, tight feeling after washing your face.
He explained that the skin normally replaces its outermost or epidermal cells within a period of 28-40 days.
"So, it's like old skin is replaced with new skin, the replacement process takes around 28-40 days," said Fiza.
