The Directorate General of Corrections stated that the 2.5-year sentence of revocation of political rights for former Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Setya Novanto, or Setnov, will be effective from the date of his full release in 2029.
"We are implementing the court's decision, which revokes their political rights for 2.5 years after the end of their counseling period. This means they will be released, truly free, after the counseling period ends," said Rika Aprianti, Head of the Correctional Cooperation Subdirectorate at the Directorate General of Corrections, in Jakarta on Sunday.
Rika said that her party was only implementing the court's decision, in this case the Supreme Court's verdict on the judicial review (PK) application submitted by Setnov.
"That's the rule, based on a court ruling. Again, it's not our rule, but that's based on a court ruling," said Rika.
It is known that Setnov was declared on parole effective Saturday (August 16th). He was officially released from Sukamiskin Penitentiary in Bandung, West Java, but is still required to report to the Bandung Penitentiary (Bapas) until April 2029.
Rika explained that Setnov was released from Sukamiskin Prison on Saturday (16/8) with a conditional program based on the Decree of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections dated August 15, 2025 Number PAS-1423 PK.05.03 of 2025.
In addition to having paid the fine and replacement money, Setnov was also declared to have fulfilled the administrative and substantive requirements, namely having good behavior, actively participating in development, demonstrating a reduced risk, and having served 2/3 of his sentence.
