Pertamina's President and Independent Commissioner Mochammad Iriawan said he would replicate the success of the Cilacap Refinery in producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or environmentally friendly aviation fuel at the Dumai and Balongan Refineries.
"We might go to Balikpapan. Dumai is definitely our first stop, and then we'll go to Balongan," said Iwan, Iriawan's nickname, at the Sustainability Trail Series event at the Cilacap Refinery in Central Java.
Iwan praised the Cilacap Refinery's success in producing environmentally friendly aviation fuel (avtur) from used cooking oil. Furthermore, Pertamina SAF production utilizes co-processing technology that utilizes the locally-made Merah Putih Catalyst.
He also highlighted the people who flocked to deposit used cooking oil at collection points to earn money.
According to him, this environmentally friendly aviation fuel has succeeded in transforming used cooking oil, which was previously waste, into a commodity with sales value.
"Therefore, I thank Pertamina people who have an extraordinary proposal to make unused oil useful," said Iwan.
In order to expand the production of aviation fuel made from used cooking oil, the Director of Operations of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), Didik Bahagia, said that the government is currently carrying out replication at the Balongan and Dumai Refinery units.
Based on his presentation, the production capacity of environmentally friendly aviation fuel at the Balongan Refinery and Dumai Refinery is planned to be 8 thousand barrels per day each, smaller when compared to the production capacity of environmentally friendly aviation fuel at the Cilacap Refinery which is 8,700 barrels per day.
