Tijuana, September 22. A fire completely consumed 15 homes in an encroachment area of the Villa del Campo subdivision, with no reported deaths or injuries.
Families living in the area—called Rinconcito—had to flee without being able to save any of their belongings because the fire spread in seconds, according to a neighbor who barely managed to get her mother out in a wheelchair.
He said he'd been living in the place where "it started and ended" for three months, and now he'll have to start all over again.
José Reyes is another resident who suffered minor burns on his back while helping his family and neighbors, as he went out without clothes, just what he was wearing.
He says he lived there for three years, and when he noticed the fire, "I didn't bother to find out where it was coming from," and he raised the alarm for people to leave.
He confirmed that no human losses or injuries were recorded, and that only the homes and some vehicles suffered total material losses. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
