Mexico City, May 8. Twenty-nine days after Justice Norma Lucía Piña Hernández ordered an investigation into the former president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Arturo Zaldívar, and some of his collaborators, the former secretary general of the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF), Carlos Alpízar Salazar, issued a statement in which he "categorically denies" the accusations against him regarding having forced judges and magistrates to issue rulings favorable to his own interests and those of his superior.
The now official of the Ministry of the Interior says he is willing to appear before the CJF.
Alpízar Salazar states in a document: "I firmly state that I never received any instructions from Chief Justice Arturo Zaldívar to discuss jurisdictional matters with judges and magistrates. My actions have always been in accordance with the law and the powers of the office I held, seeking at all times the best for the institution and the country. I am fully prepared to appear in the respective proceedings whenever formally requested by the Federal Judicial Council, with the sole requirement that an impartial investigation be carried out and that my human rights and due process be respected."
On April 9 of this year, by order of Justice Piña Hernández, president of the SCJN, the country's highest court administratively investigated her predecessor, Arturo Zaldívar.
The complaint states that " pressure was exerted on heads of jurisdictional bodies through Carlos Antonio Alpízar Salazar, with the aim of getting them to rule in favor of his interests, promising political and economic benefits, favorable assignments, ratifications in office and even money, or through extortion and threats of changes in assignment, initiation of administrative responsibility procedures or suspensions."
