Monterrey, March 15.- Former Nuevo León governor Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, known as "El Bronco," was arrested Tuesday by the Special Prosecutor's Office for Electoral Crimes (FEDE).
The arrest, according to FEDE, followed a complaint filed in 2018 by current Governor Samuel García, who was then a senator.
The document denounced an alleged misappropriation of funds by El Bronco during his failed presidential campaign in 2018.
According to the complaint, El Bronco allegedly diverted public resources and used state officials to obtain the signatures required to participate in the elections as an independent candidate.
García and FEDE are expected to provide more information later today.
Preliminary, the governor posted a tweet stating that he has "already begun" working against corruption.
