The National Community Recreational Sports Festival (Fornas) reflects the face of Indonesia, presented through a variety of sports competitions and art performances, and is attended by people from across generations.
"Fornas is the true face of Indonesia. Diverse yet united, competitive yet joyful. We witnessed young people playing alongside their seniors," said Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo at the closing of the 8th Fornas event in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara.
Dito said that more than 18,000 people were involved in organizing the national-scale sporting event aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, as many as 85 parent sports organizations participated, and the types of activities were more than 200 activities and sporting performances.
According to him, Fornas has social and economic impacts ranging from significant increases in income for local MSMEs and community involvement in the tourism sector.
"Differences in age and background dissolve in the spirit of a common goal. We gather here not to find out who is the greatest, but to strengthen social bonds as a respected nation," said Dito.
