France warned of the possibility of a "disaster" and "escalation" if the Israeli government carries out its plans for a military occupation of the Gaza Strip.
"The Israeli government's latest announcement regarding a military occupation of northern Gaza, if implemented, would be a disaster and an escalation, with Israeli hostages and Gazan civilians once again being the first victims," the French Foreign Ministry said in an official statement.
France reiterated its support for the establishment of a temporary international stabilization mission aimed at ensuring security for Israelis and Palestinians.
“The future of the Gaza Strip must be part of the future of a Palestinian state led by the Palestinian Authority.”
"France remains committed to the implementation of the two-state solution as the only way to ensure lasting peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. This war must end now with a permanent ceasefire," the statement added.
