Google will tighten Android app distribution rules starting in 2026.

Google announced that it will tighten security measures in the distribution of Android applications by requiring developer identity verification.

This applies not only to those who distribute through the Play Store but also through other app stores.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, the new policy will begin testing in October 2025 through early access for interested developers, before being officially implemented in March 2026.

In September 2026, the rules will apply to all apps installed on certified Android devices in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, before expanding globally in 2027.
