Mexicali, September 8.- Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda sent to the State Congress the creation of a state-owned company for the management and administration of the Bahía Colonet Port concession.
Representative Juan Manuel Molina García said that they would take advantage of a 2006 federal government decree authorizing the creation of a deep-sea port in the area.
The president of the Committee on Government and Constitutional Affairs said that Congress would have to analyze the request for the creation of a company through which it is intended to take advantage of an existing decree that authorizes the creation of a Deep Sea Port south of Ensenada.
Between 2004 and 2006, four deep-sea port operators and construction companies competed to secure the Punta Colonet contract from the federal government: Stevedoring Services of America (SSA Mexico Division) and Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) of Hong Kong; Puerto Colonet Infraestructura (PCI), a firm formed by five Japanese shipping partners represented by former PAN governor Ernesto Ruffo (1989-1995) and the Carso group, owned by businessman Carlos Slim.
