Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rinto Subekti, asked stakeholders to strengthen public awareness campaigns to prevent human trafficking (TPPO) in North Sumatra.
"There needs to be awareness among all elements, including the House of Representatives (DPR), the Ministry of Immigration, and the local government," Rinto said while leading a specific working visit to the North Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration in Medan on Thursday.
Rinto said all stakeholders should conduct outreach to the public regarding work abroad in accordance with procedures.
According to him, this outreach is intended to prevent people working abroad from becoming legal, illegal immigrants, or victims of human trafficking.
"Immigration has a foster village that aims to educate residents about obtaining passports and visas for overseas travel, including for work," he said.
Therefore, according to him, with the existence of fostered villages, it is very important to work abroad according to procedures so that it runs smoothly.
Member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Maruli Siahaan, hopes that cases of human trafficking in the North Sumatra region will not be repeated.
For this reason, he asked immigration authorities to regulate passports in accordance with the requirements for working abroad.
