The Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office has named three suspects in alleged corruption related to cigarette quota arrangements at the Tanjung Balai Karimun Free Trade and Port Area for the 2016-2019 period.
The three suspects each have the initials CA, who is the former Head of the Karimun Business Agency (BP), along with two of his employees, YI and DA, as the head and members of the cigarette quota control team.
After being named suspects by the Prosecutor's Office suspects YI and DA were immediately detained at the Tanjungpinang Class I State Detention Center (Rutan). Meanwhile, suspect CA was not detained due to his illness.
"Suspects YI and DA will be detained for the next 20 days or until September 16, 2025," said the Assistant for Special Crimes (Aspidsus) of the Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office, Mukharom, in Tanjungpinang, Thursday.
Mukharom explained that the actions of the three suspects caused state losses of up to IDR 182.9 billion, based on the audit results of the Financial and Development Audit Agency (BPKP).
The third mode of corruption is abusing the authority to determine the non-excise cigarette quota for the Karimun region without referring to official data from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance.
"We will thoroughly investigate this case because it has caused the state losses of hundreds of billions of rupiah," said Mukharom.
