Indonesian U-21 women's national volleyball team coach Marcos Sugiyama said his squad was still feeling pressure at the start of the 2025 U-21 Women's World Volleyball Championship, which led to their defeat to Vietnam in their opening match.
Marcos admitted his squad hadn't yet found the rhythm they wanted. Indonesia lost 0-3 (15-25, 16-25, and 18-25) in their first Pool A match at the Jawa Pos Arena in Surabaya, East Java.
"We felt the pressure, that's my conclusion. Next, we have to play aggressively," Sugiyama said after the match against Vietnam.
According to the Brazilian coach, psychological factors were the main cause of the poor performance of Junayda Santi and his friends.
However, he also highlighted the technical quality of his squad, one of which was when receiving the ball (receiving), which he considered often made mistakes.
"We shouldn't be playing like this. The fundamental aspects of our game shouldn't be like this. Our reception wasn't working," said the tactician, who is also a former Brazilian national team player.
This result puts Indonesia temporarily at the bottom of the standings with zero points.
