Intentional homicides are on the rise in Mexicali; there have been 15 in December.

 

Mexicali, December 14. In the first 14 days of this month, 15 homicides have occurred in Mexicali, representing an upswing in this crime, acknowledged the deputy director of the Municipal Police, Carlos Alfonso Romero García.

He mentioned that intentional homicides had been on the decline in recent months, but the statistics rebounded in December.

He added that he couldn't specify the cause, but some of the homicides that have occurred are related to disputes between organized crime gangs.

While 290 homicides occurred in Mexicali in 2021, the current number is 280. 

Romero García mentioned that a coordination meeting was held this week to adjust the security strategy to address this rise in intentional homicides.

Regarding the events that occurred in the Luis B. Sánchez Ejido, where there was a confrontation between the so-called "Chapitos" and "Los Rusos," he said that some subsequent events have occurred that could be related.

"This is an issue the State Attorney General's Office is following up on, and we'll be keeping a close eye on this matter," he said.

The reinforcement of security in the Valle region, he said, continues as part of an instruction from Mayor Norma Bustamante and the Director of Security, Pedro Ariel Mendívil.
