Tijuana, July 8. Drivers and owners of the Rojo y Negro taxis held a demonstration at the corner of Cuarta and Constitución streets in the downtown area, protesting the measure that requires more than 400 taxis of this type to remain off the road.
The labor secretary of the Red and Black Circle White taxi union, Josean Rosalio Cisnero, explained that currently only 17 units are making daily trips.
According to Cisnero, the Sustainable Mobility Institute (Imos) imposed this measure to force users to use the green and cream and black buses , which circulate on the same routes as the taxis.
He indicated that the IMO has threatened to tow vehicles and cancel permits if taxis load passengers without authorization.
"430 families who have been left without a financial means, who were part of this route. Many of these people, a large number, are filing for protection with the intention of protecting their family assets, which is their right to work, but the authorities don't care; it seems like everything has been bought," Cisnero said.
He added that another situation occurring at the Fourth Street site is that IMOS inspectors are on guard to prevent Red and Black taxis that are not from the White Circle from boarding passengers there, a ban that extends to black taxis.
The fines imposed on these units amount to eight thousand pesos, under the argument that only taxis from the Círculo Blanco taxi line can use that stop. However, if green and cream or black trucks pick up passengers, they are not penalized, which, Cisnero said, is not a fair measure.
