Indonesian women's tennis player Janice Tjen made her Grand Slam debut by successfully passing the first round of the US Open qualifying,.

Playing on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, Janice successfully defeated the 22nd seeded home tennis player Varvara Lepchenko with a dominant victory of 6-3, 6-1.

Janice was brilliant in her one-hour-one-minute victory, registering just one unforced error and 60 total winning points -- compared to her opponent's three unforced errors and 41 total points.

The Jakarta-born tennis player needs two more wins to reach the main draw of the US Open.

Next in the second qualifying round, Janice will face Polish tennis player Maja Chawlinska who defeated Italian tennis player Georgia Pedone 6-2, 6-0.

Janice heads into the US Open with a career-high WTA ranking of 147th. She achieved this success after finishing runner-up at the ITF W75 Lexington and the ITF W100 Landisville in Pennsylvania two weeks in a row earlier this month.
