Tijuana, August 27. This Wednesday, the temporary suspension of postal and package shipments to the United States was announced, after that country eliminated the tax exemption for packages valued under $800, known as "de minimis."
The measure, established in U.S. Executive Order 14324, will take effect on Friday, August 29, and will affect all nations that export to that market, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Mexican Postal Service (Sepomex) stated in a joint statement.
Correos de México announced that, starting today, it will temporarily suspend the delivery of packages and mail to the United States while new operational processes are defined. Mexico thus joins countries such as Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand, which have adopted similar decisions.
The Mexican government announced it is in dialogue with U.S. authorities and international postal organizations to establish mechanisms that will allow for the orderly resumption of services, in order to provide certainty to users and avoid setbacks in the delivery of goods.
