Microsoft has confirmed that it has stopped development on the game Contraband, which was developed by Avalanche Studios and was planned to be launched by Xbox Game Studios.
The open-world cooperative game from the studio behind the Just Cause series was first introduced through a brief trailer at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2021. However, since then, almost no developments have been announced.
Avalanche stated in a statement on its official website that the suspension was carried out to evaluate the future of the project.
"Active development has now ceased. We will evaluate the future of this project," Avalanche wrote in a post on its official website.
They expressed their appreciation for the community's enthusiasm since the game's announcement and promised to provide updates as soon as possible.
The decision comes amid a wave of job cuts at Microsoft. Last May, the company announced the layoffs of 7,000 employees, or about 3 percent of its global workforce. That number was increased by 9,000 job cuts the following summer.
