Migrant children, the subject of the photography exhibition "Carrying Dreams: Backpacks, Destinies, and Hopes"

Tijuana, August 11. Openness to dialogue regarding the migrant community and children , as well as respect for their right to free movement, is the central theme of the exhibition inaugurated on August 8 in the Vidal Pinto Photography Hallway of the Tijuana Cultural Center (Cecut), entitled "Carrying Dreams. Backpacks, Destinies, and Hopes."

During the opening ceremony, the play's author, Alfonso Caraveo Castro , commented: "I want to focus attention on migrant children, specifically as an example of resilience in the face of prolonged waits for minors in makeshift camps, especially in Tijuana, San Diego, and Piedras Negras."

"The issue of migrant children is not a minor one. According to data from the IOM (International Organization for Migration), they represent 12 percent of the international migrant population, and in the makeshift camps that have sprung up in our region, according to studies by El Colef, one in four people are children ," he noted.

The photographer, who has a specialty in International Migration from the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Colef), continued: “When reviewing images from El Colef's photographic archive, it is clear that there is a common pattern: migrant children, during their journey, migrate carrying their own toys , and this is evident in the images displayed here.”
